Tips on Having a Deeper Prayer Life
In saying the words “prayer life” it suggests a way of life; having a life of prayer. If you desire to have a prayer life or would like to take your prayer life to a deeper level, I wrote down some practical prayer tips to encourage you that you can have a deeper prayer life with Jesus if you are willing to make the time. A prayer life is….
- Communication: In life you communicate with many different people all through out your day. Some more than others depending on the relationship you have with them. For example; if you are married with children your family would probably be the one you most likely communicate with more often than others on a daily basis. In any relationship the more you spend time with that person the closer you become. Prayer is no different. Prayer is conversation with God that is intimate between you and Him. Christ desires to have that intimate relationship with you, if you will spend that time with Him through prayer.
- Personal: Prayer is a personal conversation between you and God. We have to remember that we are the bride of Christ and Christ is our bride groom to be and that makes our relationship close and intimate. We can pray or talk to Him anytime, anywhere, out loud or privately in our hearts but we know He hears us by faith.
- Informal: You can pray formally in the mornings, before you eat, and before you go to bed; but having a prayer life is praying and communicating all through out your day with God, as in a personal relationship. God desires that we come just as we are. He hears our hearts more than he hears our words. . Whether we are happy, sad, mad, or glad; we can come to Him honestly understanding that God can handle whatever we throw at Him because He already knows and loves us dearly. We should also remember that God is still Holy and still God, and should be respected; but come honestly and humbly before Him in prayer.
- Listening: Prayer is also conversation. Which means, it is not just a one way conversation with God; it takes two. There are times to speak and there are also times to listen. The bible says to be quick to listen and slow to speak. Listen for God's voice. God speaks to His children through His Word and the Holy Spirit. I encourage you to spend time in God’s word, meditate on His Word, memorize scripture and know God intimately through His Word. By knowing God’s Word the Holy Spirit will prompt you with a scripture or speak to you through a psalms and it is the most wonderful thing when God will remind you of His promises right when you need to hear them the most.
- Believing: One of the most important elements of prayer is faith. When we pray we need to believe that He hears us. Hebrews 11:1 “Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.” NKJV When you believe that He hears your prayers, you will be confidant in coming to God more often for all things and will have established the best habit we could have; which is to pray at all times. Pray and believe by faith that He hears you and God will honor your faith with His ears.
- Prayerful: Praying and conversing with God also involves praying for not only your self but others, situations, healings; all things according to His will. Being prayerful is turning to God for all things in prayer and acknowledging Him as our God our Salvation, our Provider, our Restorer, our Healer and our Protector. The list goes on… We can turn to Him for all things believing that He is able and that He hears the cries and prayers of His children!
The bible says that the prayers of His people are like incense to His nostrils. It glorifies Him and blesses Him because prayer is a special form of worship to God that acknowledges our need for Him in every aspect of our life.
Jeremiah 33:3 “Call to me and I will answer you and tell you great and unsearchable things you do not know.” NIV
