Wives in Touch

Meredith Sheppard is a gifted author and speaker.  She publishes Wives In Touch, a bi-monthly letter of encouragement which offers hope and practical advice to pastors’ wives.  Meredith’s ability to understand and personalize Scripture is a gift to all who enjoy her speaking and writing.  Her wisdom, warmth and candid communication style creates trust and openness wherever she ministers.

Meredith is the wife of Paul Sheppard, senior pastor of Abundant Life Christian Fellowship (www.alcf.net) in Mountain View, CA and speaker of Enduring Truth (www.enduringtruth.org), a popular daily radio broadcast.  They are the proud parents of two young adult children, Alicia and Aaron.

Now that she and her husband are empty nesters, Meredith’s maternal desires are met by ministering to women.  Meredith has written several articles for Just Between Us magazine, a Christian women’s publication.  One of her articles, “Conquering Comparison,” is featured as the first chapter of the book titled The Comparison Trap, a compilation of writings by several Christian authors.

Whether serving at home or abroad, Meredith is an encourager with a sincere heart for women.

On the Job Training

We assume quite a demanding role and yet pastors' wives continue to be the most untrained of all Christian professionals.  In the book Heart To Heart With Pastors' Wives, contributing author Mary Lou Whitlock writes, "Many wives pleaded for help with ministry skills and wished they had been the recipients of more help and advance preparation before they were launched into varying degrees of leadership roles."  (Based on the * NAE survey results.)

Freedom

Dear Sister In Christ,

Ellis Island in New York Harbor was the gateway to America for more than 12 million immigrants between 1892 and 1924.  The Statue of Liberty was the first structure many immigrants saw as they entered the country.  It became a world symbol of the United States as a place of freedom, refuge and hope.

A Lesson from Sarah

Every pastor's wife can benefit from having a role model and/or mentor. So when God pointed out a particular woman and said I could learn a lot from her I sought to become better acquainted with a woman with whom I was only fairly familiar. Actually I knew her husband and son far better but had never really spent time getting to know the woman within this beautiful wife and loving mother.

Wives in Touch-February Article

Tuesday January 22nd, 2009 the 44th president of the United States was sworn into office.  Since announcing his candidacy, in February of 2007, the media has been abuzz with facts and photos of Barack Obama and his family.

Wives in Touch - Mentoring

Dear Sister In Christ,

Within the span of one month, a few different doctors told me a few different changes in my body were “normal” considering my age.  The crowning blow came during my daily morning ritual of lightly rubbing moisturizing cream (heavily laced with glycolic acid and sunscreen) into my face.  What I thought was a runaway streak of the white cream turned out to be a hair—firmly rooted to my scalp.

We All Need Friends

Dear Sister In Christ,

It’s been one of those days.  Actually, it has been one of those days for about a week now—days where you just have to talk to yourself and your God.  These are the days where you thank God for your friends but know they can never, nor should they, take His place.

Galatians 6:2:

It never ceases to amaze me how quickly and almost imperceptibly I can pack on the pounds. With my birthday in October, Thanksgiving in November and Christmas in December, I eat too many goodies for the entire last quarter of the year.  Ugh!  Without realizing it, I gain a good five pounds between my birthday and New Years
