Hope an Anchor to our Soul
Psalm 16:8
“I have set the Lord always before me; Because He is at my right hand I shall not be moved. NKJV
Context:
Psalms 16:7-11 “I will bless the Lord, who hath given me counsel: my reins also instruct me in the night seasons. I have set the Lord always before me: because he is at my right hand, I shall not be moved. Therefore my heart is glad, and my glory rejoiceth: my flesh also shall rest in hope. For thou wilt not leave my soul in hell; neither wilt thou suffer thine Holy One to see corruption. Thou wilt shew me the path of life: in thy presence is fullness of joy; at thy right hand there are pleasures for evermore. NKJV
This passage is not just a beautiful promise but a prophetic one as well. In Acts 2:25-28, on the day of Pentecost, it says the Holy Spirit had come into the house where the disciples were and they were moved by the Holy Spirit; speaking in tongues of their own languages. The people who stood by watching this didn’t understand while some mocked them and thought they were drunk with wine.
Peter sees this and stands up before them and begins to share everything that had just happened to them. He recounts this very passage from Psalm16:8-11, and shares how this passage is a prophetic description of Christ suffering, His resurrection and also how God would not leave Him in hell or suffer to see corruption but would resurrect Him on the third day and explained to them that when He was taken up; the Holy Spirit would come to them. Peter then tells the people how they witnessed Christ ascending up to the clouds as a testimony of what Christ told them and when he finished sharing the gospel to the people the bible says that 3000 souls were added to them that very day.
What an amazing day that was, what also blessed me in this story is How Christ; in the midst of His suffering had set His Father before His eyes as it says in the King James Version, and seeing God at His right hand gave Him strength and Hope to not be moved or shaken by His circumstances because He saw pleasures forever more awaiting Him into glory with His Father. This alone should encourage us greatly in God’s divine love for us and also what awaits us in heaven to those who believe in Him..
Hebrews 6:19-20 “This hope we have as an anchor of the soul, both sure and steadfast, and which enters the Presence behind the veil,” NKJV
This is also a powerful lesson and one to take note of; that as we Hope in God through Christ and set Him always before us, we can rest in Him and rejoice because He becomes our anchor for our soul. A living Hope that keeps us sure and steady; for when the wind and waves come through the storms of life; we can rejoice in our flesh as Christ did on the cross; believing by faith that God is right there with us in the boat and will see us through any storm and keep us anchored on His rock of salvation which is Christ Jesus our Lord.
“Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who according to His abundant mercy has begotten us again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, to an inheritance incorruptible and undefiled and that does not fade away, reserved in heaven for you, who are kept by the power of God through faith for salvation ready to be revealed in the last time.” 1 Peter 1:3-5 - NKJV
“looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith, who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. “ Hebrews 12:2 - NKJV
