Day 5 – Let it Shine
Matthew 5:16
“Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven.” NKJV
In the Old Testament God gave a prophetic message through the prophet Isaiah to the people, saying that a great light would come in the midst of gloom and the shadow of darkness and his name would be called Immanuel, God with us. In Matthew 4:16 this particular passage is mentioned again:
Matthew 4:16 “The people who sat in darkness have seen a great light, And upon those who sat in the region and shadow of death Light has dawned." – NKJV
Notice how it says, “Light has dawned”. It was mentioned in Matthew as a reminder that Jesus coming to earth was a fulfillment of prophecy to be the light of the world a great light in the midst of darkness, condemnation and gloom. At the beginning of Jesus ministry it is mentioned again here as a reminder that, “Light has dawned”. I shared this in my recent Christmas article that God was providing a ray of hope and shining light to a dark world to give us new life through His Son.
James 1:17-18, “Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and comes down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shadow of turning. Of His own will He brought us forth by the word of truth, that we might be a kind of firstfruits of His creatures. “ NKJV
Now through Christ’s life and His resurrection we who believe have been given His Life to dwell within our hearts that comes down from above from the Father of Lights. His light and His Life through the Holy Spirit now permeate through us and all Jesus is asking us to do is, “Let it Shine!”
Daniel 12:3 “Those who are wise shall shine Like the brightness of the firmament, And those who turn many to righteousness Like the stars forever and ever.“ NKJV
