Day 4 - Follow Me

Follow Me

Matthew 4:19-20

Then He said to them, "Follow Me, and I will make you fishers of men."  They immediately left their nets and followed Him. NKJV

Right at the beginning of Jesus ministry He calls two brothers who were both fishermen.  He simply saw them and called them and it says here they immediately got up and followed Him.

Jesus being fully God and fully man understood them and spoke their language.  He knew they were experts in their field because it was their livelihood, something they worked at every single day but Jesus was going to show them a new way of living; His expertise in fishing for the lives of men and bringing them to salvation through Christ.

Notice these men were fishermen not theologians; they had no ministry background what so ever and yet Jesus chose them first out of the twelve He called His disciples.  Note: These men went on to change the entire world for Christ.

This alone should encourage every person that desires to seek and serve God.  God does not require us to have it all together, a big name, a degree or a lot of money to follow Him.  In fact, God is not impressed with our abilities because He is the one that gave us our gifts, talents and abilities from before we were born.  What He desires is us; our heart and our willingness to follow Him by faith.

If you are reading this devotional and you have not yet taken that first step in receiving Christ I encourage you - tomorrow is not promised and today is the day of salvation.  Jesus is saying, “Come Follow Me”.  Ask Him in your heart, confess your sins and believe by faith that Jesus Christ is the Lord God; savior of the world who came to seek and save the lost.

Perhaps you have already asked Jesus into your heart but you have not fully taken the steps to follow Christ.  His Holy Spirit changes us from the inside out and when we come to Him by faith.  It is even He that gives us the faith to believe if we are willing to ask Him and receive it.  I encourage you to come and follow God by faith and He will show you a most excellent way for your life.

John 14:6

“Jesus said to him, "I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.” NKJV
