The notion conjures something dreamy, doesn’t it? People fantasize of “falling in love,” entering that realm of beginnings and butterfly giddiness, when real-life drudgery suspends because they’ve met that special someone who connects to their soul and flits through their mind as they brush their teeth and tie their shoes.
And once they’ve fallen, they might coo about being “in love” as they plan a wedding, as they snuggle on the honeymoon, and for a dreamy while thereafter…but not too long of a while. The shine rubs off, the drudgery returns, and the notion of being “in love,” of being immersed, enraptured, and nestled inside a vast and wonderful feeling, passes. And they hope “love,” whatever it means to them, is enough to hold them. Sometimes it is, often it isn’t.
But here’s the awesome truth. Being in love, truly in love, is not a feeling. It’s a place. It’s a person—Jesus Christ. And it’s way beyond giddy. It’s a vast and wonderful realm of immeasurable blessing and limitless possibility, a place where the shine never dulls but only brightens as you surrender more and more of yourself to His loving care.
It’s a forever place where the heart is anchored and protected, settled. It’s a place of trust, where you never worry about being deceived or hurt. Actually, you needn’t worry at all. Love handles your tomorrows, and assures you that it knows better than you do, and only wants the best for you.
It’s a place of peace and joy, of knowing that nothing this world delivers will ever knock you down—well, maybe for a moment—but love rescues, repairs and restores. Love sees the tears and hears the cries. Love knows when the well has run empty; love fills it back up.
Being in love means someone has done more than connect to your soul. Someone has awakened it. Being in love means you know the someone who already knew you. Already loved you. It means you’ve left yourself and entered His arms. It means nothing, nothing, will ever be the same.
I’m in love. What about you?
If you are too, then let’s nestle deeper in its grip. Let’s trust more and worry less. Let’s shout for joy while we’re going through—come on, let’s try it—knowing we’re already blessed, already in the place that’s higher than any other, already in the love that’s greater than any other. Let’s meditate on what we have and walk like we truly believe it.
If you’ve never known this kind of love, it’s beckoning to you. Love does that. It knocks on the door of your heart. It knows that nothing is more important, nothing more worthy of your time and attention than this one appointment. Nothing will ever truly make sense until you open the door. When you do, love will come in and make its home with you. Love will introduce you to its vast and wonderful realm. It’s real. It’s forever. And it’s waiting.
Lord, I want to be in love. Really in love. It almost sounds too good to be true. But if it’s real, then I want it. Help me to surrender all of myself to You. I want Jesus to be Lord and Savior of my life. Forgive me of my sins and cover me with Your love. I want to enter that vast and wonderful realm. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
